Summary:           

Ensure the smooth functioning and oversight of NADA's financial operations and work with NADA departments in the financial oversight of their budgets & vendors and ensure an effective internal control environment.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Direct all financial reporting and tax matters, ensuring timely and accurate production of financial reports; compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements, and timely review and submission of tax returns.
  • Oversee day to day accounting operations; including Cash Management, Accounts Payable & Receivables, General Ledger, Fixed Assets, Account Reconciliations, etc.
  • Manage accounting & finance team to ensure effective workflow, controls and competencies. Utilize technology to streamline operations and drive efficiencies.
  • Ensure effective internal control environment. Prepare and update internal control policies and procedures manual and be responsible for oversight and enforcement of those policies and procedures.
  • Oversee all expense reimbursement for employees and NADA board members.
  • Budget/Forecasting: Oversee annual budget process, working closely with all business units and departments. Work with Accounting/ Finance staff to prepare monthly forecasts, variance analysis, cash flow projections, etc.  
  • Investment Portfolio: work with COO/CFO on ensuring independent investment advisor is providing timely and accurate reporting and is adhering to approved policy & guidelines.
  • Real Estate: assist with all leasing activities for HQ/Tysons and Capitol Hill properties.
  • Banking: assist in overseeing cash management and relationship with Corporate bank.
  • Annual Audit: Oversees all aspects of annual audit and financial statement preparation. Key contact for independent auditors.
  • Ensure that appropriate training and development is provided to staff.

 

Non-Essential Functions:              

  • Assist in preparation of materials for Board, Executive Committee, Finance Committee and related organizations (Foundation and PAC). Present financial information as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: Education and Work Experience

BA or BS in Accounting or Finance required; CPA required. Minimum of 10 years' progressive experience in accounting and financial reporting including financial audits, financial analysis, accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, investments, etc. Supervisory experience preferred. A blend of public accounting and corporate accounting experience a significant plus. Knowledge of non-profit tax/501(c)(6) and accounting regulations for non-profits. Ability to work with automated accounting software; Great Plains preferred; Proficiency with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Creative ability and resourceful problem-solving skills; Demonstrated success in planning/ directing projects, and implementing new technologies & tools to support accounting operations. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with demonstrated success in team-oriented collaboration. Ability to convey financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including non-financial managers.
